Special Studies in Music Since 1900
Section 44109
- Note:
Topic: Popular Music Songwriting Since the 1960s
Course description: How has the sound and business of popular music songwriting changed since the 1960s, when the success of singer-songwriters like Bob Dylan upended the professional composers who had dominated the music industry since the previous century? We will examine the rise of disco and soul, the politics of Nashville and country music, ghostwriting in hip hop, and the threats of digitization and AI. Along the way, we will try our hand at creating our own songs in various styles. - Session Dates (session code 070)
