Special Studies in Music Since 1900
Section 44110
- Note: Topic: Music and Violence Course description: This course explores the complex relationship between music and violence across various cultures during the twentieth, and part of the twenty-first century. Students will examine how music has been used both as a tool for protest, resistance, and social change, as well as a means to incite violence, promote propaganda, or reinforce power structures. Through case studies spanning genres from classical to contemporary, and regions from the Western world to non-Western contexts, the course will critically analyze the role of music in conflict, war, social movements, and state violence.
