USC Schedule of Classes

Fall 2013

Identity and Diversity in American Contexts

Section 64893

  • Note: In this section of Writing 150, we will practice the skills of critical thinking and rhetorical awareness through an examination of race and class in America. With the election and re-election of our first biracial president, many have called twenty-first century America a "postracial" landscape. Recent events such as the Christopher Dorner rampage or the release of Django Unchained show that race still plays a dominant role in public discourse, however. Through reading, writing, and (lively!) discussion, we will investigate the role of race and class in contemporary America, focusing in particular on the ways in which racism affects the institutions that govern the way we think, learn, work, and live.
