Summer Housing

USC Housing, located in Parking Structure X, offers facilities to accommodate the needs of anyone interested in living near USC for the summer who is a member of one of the following eligible groups: (1) students, faculty or staff of USC; or (2) any individual enrolled or participating in a USC-sponsored program. Enrollment in a USC summer course is not required to be eligible for summer housing.

Eligibility

When you apply for summer housing, proof of eligibility will be required in one of the following forms: (1) for current students, faculty or staff – valid USC ID; or (2) for non-USC students or staff – a written confirmation of participation in a USC program and a valid ID, such as a driver’s license or passport. In addition, you will need a 10-digit USC ID number to facilitate billing and payment through the Cashier’s Office. Proof of affiliation with a USC program must be submitted to the Housing office before a summer assignment can be offered. For more information, visit the USC Housing Website.

Contract Period

The program allows qualified individuals the opportunity to rent a space in an apartment for the summer from May 19 to Aug. 13. To suit their schedules, applicants may select from several different contract start and end dates within that period.

USC residents holding housing contracts for fall 2014 and requiring a place to stay from the end of summer housing to the start of fall housing must apply for summer housing and submit a written request for a live-through stay to their summer housing Customer Service Center by July 23, 2014. Relocation to another university housing space may be necessary if the summer and fall housing spaces are different. A separate fee is charged for an extension of the summer contract and must be approved in advance by the Customer Service Center.

Buildings and Rents

Most summer residents live in apartments in North University Park, within walking distance of the USC campus. Only a limited number of university-owned apartments will be available for occupancy during the summer session. A complete listing of available facilities will be included in the summer brochure.

All apartments are furnished, except for household items such as pots and pans or linens. Laundry rooms are available in most buildings and each apartment complex offers a variety of amenities. Refer to the USC Housing Website, the Living at USC brochure and the summer housing brochure for details.

Housing rates for summer 2014 will be listed in the summer housing brochure available on the USC Housing Website or at any Customer Service Center in late March.

Check-in

Check-in is permitted Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Customer Service Center serving your building. If residents need to check in at any other time, arrangements must be made with a customer service representative from the assigned location at least two weeks prior to arrival.

Housing Application

The application process can be accessed from the USC Housing website. Applicants are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis, with current residents having priority over new applicants as long as they meet the priority application deadline of Friday, March 28. A $45 non-refundable application processing fee is required and can be paid online by credit card.

Apartments where residents can live by themselves or with just one roommate are in high demand and short supply and will go to those who apply early. Most summer residents will have more than one roommate, although they may have the option to “buy out” additional space in the apartment. Requests for “buy outs” from individuals will be considered based on space and availability.

Specific requests for a roommate will be honored whenever possible, as long as applicants adhere to the guidelines for requesting roommates listed in the summer housing brochure.

The contract balance for the duration of a summer stay will be billed to USC students through the Cashier’s Office in the USC Credit Union branch at Student Union 106. Any resident who is not a current USC student is required to pay the Cashier’s Office in advance by certified check, money order, credit card or cash. Personal checks will not be accepted. Non-USC students must show proof of payment before they may check in to their summer housing assignment.
